Overview

Nepal’s far east holds one of the Himalaya’s most pristine and powerful secrets: the approach to Kanchenjunga South Base Camp. This 11-day adventure is not merely a trek; it is a journey into a landscape where the world’s third highest mountain, Kanchenjunga, rises in absolute majesty, its 8,586-metre summit guarded by deep forests, rushing glacial rivers, and the quiet rhythms of traditional Limbu and Sherpa villages. For those who crave an authentic, less-traveled path through the Himalaya, this moderate itinerary offers a rare chance to stand at the foot of a giant, surrounded by the raw, untamed beauty of the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area.

Beginning and ending in the vibrant chaos of Kathmandu, the route unfolds as a slow, deliberate unveiling of the eastern Himalaya. You will fly into the airstrip at Bhadrapur and drive through the fertile plains and terraced hills of the tea country, gradually gaining elevation as you enter the Kabeli Khola valley. The trail winds through dense rhododendron and bamboo forests, past cascading waterfalls and over suspension bridges, each day bringing you closer to the high alpine world. The summit of your journey is Kanchenjunga South Base Camp at 5,143 metres, a high, rocky amphitheater where the immense south face of the mountain looms overhead, its glaciers spilling down into the valley. This is not a summit attempt, but a deeply rewarding base camp experience that offers unparalleled views of the peak, as well as the surrounding giants like Rathong and Kabru.

The moderate grading of this trek reflects its well-paced elevation gain and the presence of acclimatization days, notably at Yamphudin and Ramche. While the terrain is rugged and includes some steep sections, particularly on the approach to the base camp, it does not require technical climbing. You will be walking on established trails, crossing high passes such as the Sinion La (4,660m), and camping in designated sites. The sense of remoteness is profound; you will see few other trekkers, and the air is filled with the calls of pheasants and the rustle of the forest. This is a trek for the experienced walker who values solitude, cultural immersion, and the privilege of walking in the shadow of one of the earth’s great mountains. Every step is a meditation on scale, resilience, and the quiet power of a landscape that has remained largely unchanged for centuries.

Trekking in March

“We were on a trekking in March 2025 with a family and friends. Our trek was from Chame to Manang and back. Our guide was Moti, who orginised everything for us. He was kind, helpful and we felt looked after all the time to admire beautiful villages and nature. We recommend Moti as a guide!”

Genuine, human, physical challenge

“Thank you very much to Madan, and to Kedar for their kindness and professionalisms! we left for the trek of Manaslu but ill health forced me to be repatriated by helicopter to the hospital of Kathmandu. They accompanied me from the beginning to the end. I even had the chance to do a scooter trek to Kathmandu with Kedar and visit a part of the city when the form was there. I can only recommend this serious agency with a really attentive guide!!!it always feels good when you are away from yours to have someone who reassures you and who is always positive! Fun but very serious I highly recommend...you can go with your eyes closed Vincent”

A 10 day trek including the Khopra Danda (ridge) and poon hill views

“Madan and team were less than guides and more like family during this trip. The tour itself was tiring at times (for a first time trekker) but beautiful, ever-changing and exciting all the way. Consider me a repeat customer and look forward to the first available opportunity to fly back and enjoy the beauty of Nepal and its caring people.”

Go with your eyes closed

“We did the Manaslu circuit for two weeks. Everything went very well, the scenery was beautiful. Everything was very well organized, Madan was always available and even helped us after the trek. Our guide Roshan was flexible according to our desires and managed to make us comfortable despite random weather. Kind and funny, thanks to him we were always the first served at the table in the hotels 😂 Thank you again for this beautiful memories and superb experience. We recommend with your eyes closed.”

Unforgettable trekking on the Manaslu Circuit!

“Thanks to our great Guide Roshan Pandey and our Porter: Summer Manasolu Ghale, we had an amazing experience! The 3 side tracks, turned out to be the most memorable! Serang Gumba, Manislu Base Camp and a horseback ride to the Tibetian/ Chinese border! It was 14 days of walking, including 2 rest/ acclimatisation days and 2 days in a jeep/ car! Me and my husband would recommend these people with all our heart! ️”

Around Kanchenjunga Trek

“Around Kanchenjunga Trek I loved this trek so much, both for the mountain scenery and for the Limbu village life that you witness. My guide, Kumar, planned carefully the stages, and was very concerned about our safety and not getting lost late in the evening in the mountain areas. I was well acclimatised, so I wanted to do this trek quicker than usual, for what Kumar put not objection. Thanks for that”
