Traverse the legendary Annapurna Circuit, plus a side trek to Tilicho Lake - Nepal’s highest Lake on this 12-days Himalayan journey.
The 12-day Annapurna Circuit with Tilicho Lake Trek offers an extraordinary journey through one of Nepal’s most celebrated mountain landscapes. This route combines the classic Annapurna Circuit with a rewarding detour to Tilicho Lake, the highest lake in Nepal, creating an adventure that feels both timeless and exclusive. As you walk ancient trade paths and cross the Thorong La Pass at 5,416 meters, the sweeping views of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Manaslu unfold before you in a sequence of ever-changing panoramas. The trail passes through the deep, dramatic Kali Gandaki Gorge, the world’s deepest gorge, offering a striking contrast to the high-altitude passes ahead.
The side trek to Tilicho Lake adds a layer of remote beauty, where the turquoise waters sit beneath a dramatic amphitheater of peaks. Each day brings a new terrain, from subtropical forests and terraced fields to high-altitude deserts and glacial valleys. This itinerary is designed for trekkers seeking a complete Himalayan experience—one that balances physical challenge with moments of profound stillness and discovery. Along the way, you will encounter remote villages of the Manang and Mustang regions, ancient Buddhist monasteries, and the warm hospitality of Gurung and Thakali communities, making this trek a cultural as well as a natural treasure.
What sets this trek apart is the seamless fusion of two iconic experiences in a single journey. You will cross the legendary Thorong La Pass, a milestone that rewards your effort with views that stretch across the entire Annapurna range, while also reaching the shores of Tilicho Lake, a shimmering gem cradled by rocky cliffs and snow-fed streams. The diversity is staggering: one moment you are walking through pine forests and yak pastures, the next you are traversing the arid, wind-swept landscapes of the Upper Mustang region. Natural hot springs at Tatopani offer a soothing respite for tired muscles, and the ancient chortens and prayer flags that dot the trail remind you of the deep spiritual roots woven into these mountains. This trek is not just a physical achievement; it is an immersion into the heart of the Himalayas, where every step reveals a new layer of beauty and meaning.

Drive from Kathmandu to Dharapani via Besisahar
Today begins with an early breakfast in Kathmandu before we transfer you by tourist bus to Besisahar, the gateway to the Annapurna region. From there, a shared jeep carries you deeper into the valley, winding along the Marsyangdi River through terraced fields and hillside settlements. The drive itself is an introduction to the changing landscape, as subtropical greenery gives way to pine forests and the air grows noticeably thinner. By late afternoon, you arrive in Dharapani, a traditional Gurung village that marks the true start of your trekking adventure.
Dharapani sits at the confluence of the Marsyangdi and Dudh Khola rivers, surrounded by forested slopes and the distant promise of snow-capped peaks. This is where you step off the road and onto the trail that pilgrims and traders have followed for centuries. The village itself is a collection of stone houses and prayer-flagged chortens, offering a warm welcome and a chance to settle into your teahouse. As evening falls, enjoy a hearty meal while your guide briefs you on the days ahead, and listen to the river's steady flow a soothing soundtrack for your first night in the mountains.
Trek from Dharapani to Chame
Your day begins with a gentle ascent through dense pine forests, where the air carries the crisp scent of resin and the sound of the Marsyangdi River grows louder with each step. You will cross several suspension bridges that sway above roaring turquoise waters, offering glimpses of terraced fields and distant peaks. The trail winds through small Gurung and Manangi villages, where whitewashed houses with prayer flags flutter in the breeze. After roughly five to six hours of walking, you arrive in Chame, the administrative center of the Manang district. Here, you can soak in natural hot springs that soothe tired muscles while gazing up at the dramatic face of Lamjung Himal.
Chame marks a noticeable shift in landscape and culture. The valley narrows, and the vegetation becomes sparser as you gain altitude. Your guide will point out the changing architecture, with stone roofs replacing thatch, and the increasing number of mani walls and chortens that mark the path. This is a good place to pause and acclimatize, as the elevation here sits above 2,600 meters. The teahouse in Chame offers warm meals and a chance to swap stories with fellow trekkers before the next stage of your journey into higher terrain.
Chame to Pisang: Lower or Upper Village (3,200m / 10,499ft)
Today’s trek from Chame to Pisang is a day of unfolding grandeur. You leave behind the alpine charm of Chame, the district headquarters of Manang, and follow the Marsyangdi River as the valley widens. The trail passes through pine and rhododendron forests, crossing several suspension bridges and passing the striking rock face known as the “Buddha Wall” near the village of Taal. After about five to six hours of walking, you reach the settlement of Pisang, where you have a choice: Lower Pisang at 3,200 meters or Upper Pisang at 3,300 meters. Both offer spectacular views, but they present very different perspectives of the surrounding peaks.
Lower Pisang is the more traditional stop, with a cluster of lodges nestled among fields and a handful of gompas. Upper Pisang, perched on a ridge above, commands a sweeping panorama of Annapurna II, which rises like a fortress to the east. The short, steep climb to the upper village is well worth it for photographers and those who want to wake up to a front-row view of the mountain. As the afternoon light softens, the face of Annapurna II glows in shades of gold and rose, a preview of the Himalayan drama that awaits in the days ahead.
Trek from Upper Pisang to Manang (3,540m)
Today's trek from Upper Pisang to Manang offers a choice that shapes your experience. The high trail climbs above the Marsyangdi River, providing sweeping views of Annapurna II, Annapurna IV, and Pisang peak in about five to six hours of steady ascent. The lower trail winds through charming villages like Ngawal and Braga, where ancient monasteries and chortens await. Both paths lead to Manang, a vibrant town at 3,540 meters that feels like a high-altitude oasis.
In Manang, you'll find teahouses, bakeries, and trekking shops against a backdrop of snowy peaks. The afternoon is free for acclimatization, with time to visit Manang Gompa or simply rest and absorb the Annapurna views. This pause prepares your body for the higher days ahead, including the side trek to Tilicho Lake and the crossing of Thorong La Pass.
Acclimatization Day in Manang
A dedicated acclimatization day in Manang helps your body adjust to the altitude before the challenging days ahead. We take a gentle hike to Gangapurna Lake, a serene glacial lake with reflections of the surrounding peaks, or venture to Ice Lake for panoramic views of the Annapurna range. This short but rewarding walk is essential for building your body's red blood cell count and preparing you for the high passes to come.
The afternoon is free to explore Manang's winding streets, visit the old monastery, or simply rest and hydrate in a comfortable teahouse. Your guide will monitor your health and offer tips on pacing, hydration, and breathing techniques. This day is not just about restit , is a strategic step that significantly increases your chances of a successful and safe crossing of Thorong La Pass.
Trek from Manang to Sri Kharka (4,060m)
Today we leave the main Annapurna Circuit and head towards the remote Tilicho Lake. The trail climbs steadily through arid, high-altitude landscapes, offering sweeping views of the Annapurna range. As we ascend, the terrain becomes more rugged and the air thinner, preparing us for the lake’s dramatic setting. We spend the night at Sri Kharka, a small settlement that serves as a gateway to this side trek.
Trek from Sri Kharka to Tilicho Base Camp (4,150m)
A shorter day designed to support acclimatization. The trail leads you through a rocky valley, where the turquoise waters of Tilicho Lake become visible in the distance, a stunning preview of the adventure ahead. You settle into base camp, surrounded by the raw, high-altitude landscape that makes this side trek so memorable.
Trek to Tilicho Lake (4,919m) and return to Sri Kharka
An early start rewards you with one of the trek's finest moments. The trail climbs steadily from Tilicho Base Camp through rocky moraines and past glacial streams. As the sun rises, the amphitheater of peaks comes alive, casting shadows across turquoise Tilicho Lake at 4,919 meters. You’ll walk the shore, photograph the calm waters reflecting Tilicho Peak and the Annapurna massif, and absorb the serene majesty of Nepal’s highest lake.
After soaking in the views, you descend the same trail to Sri Kharka. The four-to-five-hour return offers a fresh perspective as afternoon light softens the rugged landscape. The gradual drop brings back vegetation and the sound of the Marsyangdi River. You arrive in the late afternoon, ready for a warm teahouse and a well-earned meal, reflecting on your rare encounter with this pristine alpine gem.
Trek from Sri Kharka to Yak Kharka (4,020m)
We descend back to the main Annapurna Circuit trail, leaving the high-altitude stillness of Tilicho Lake behind. The path unfolds through fragrant juniper forests and across wide yak pastures, where the only sounds are the wind and the distant clink of bells. Soon you reach Yak Kharka, a small settlement perched on a hillside with expansive views of the surrounding peaks. This is a quiet, contemplative stretch of the trek, a gentle return to the rhythm of the classic circuit.
Trek from Yak Kharka to Thorong Phedi (4,540m)
A steady climb leads you to Thorong Phedi, the dramatic base camp for your crossing of Thorong La Pass. As you ascend, the trail unfolds with sweeping views of jagged peaks and the vast, high-altitude landscape that surrounds you. This is a day to move at a mindful pace, letting the altitude and the scenery settle in as you approach the threshold of the pass.
Upon arrival at Thorong Phedi, the focus shifts to rest and preparation. Your guide will brief you on the early morning ascent, ensuring you are well-fed, hydrated, and mentally ready for the challenge ahead. The thin air and the quiet hum of the mountains set the stage for what will be the most exhilarating day of the trek—a moment to gather your strength and anticipation before the pre-dawn start.
Cross Thorong La Pass at 5,416m and descend to Muktinath
Start well before dawn, as an early departure is essential for crossing Thorong La Pass safely. The trail climbs steadily from Thorong Phedi, passing through a stark, windswept landscape of moraine and rock before reaching the pass at 5,416 meters. The effort is rewarded with breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks, including Annapurna I, Dhaulagiri, and the vast Tibetan plateau stretching to the north. After taking in the moment and snapping photos at the prayer flags, the descent begins—a long, switchbacking path that drops more than 1,600 meters into the arid Mustang region. The total walking time for the day is around 8 to 9 hours, so steady pacing and proper hydration are key.
The trail leads you into the sacred village of Muktinath, a place of deep spiritual significance for both Hindus and Buddhists. Here, you can visit the temple complex with its 108 water spouts, where pilgrims bathe in the freezing waters for blessings and purification. The temple’s eternal flame, fed by natural gas, adds to the mystical atmosphere. After the high-altitude exertion of the pass, Muktinath offers a gentle transition, with its dry, desert-like terrain and views of the Kali Gandaki Valley below. You will spend the night in a comfortable teahouse, reflecting on the day’s achievement and the cultural richness of this unique Himalayan stop.
Drive from Muktinath to Pokhara by bus
After the high-altitude wonders of Thorong La and Muktinath, today you exchange trekking poles for a seat on a local bus. The drive traces the dramatic descent through the Kali Gandaki Gorge, the deepest gorge in the world, as the landscape shifts from arid cliffs to lush, terraced hillsides. The air grows warmer, gently reminding you that you are leaving the high Himalaya behind.
By late afternoon, the road levels out and the serene waters of Phewa Lake come into view, signaling your arrival in Pokhara. Check into your hotel and enjoy a free evening to stroll the lakeside promenade, savor a well-deserved dinner, or watch the sunset paint the Annapurna range in gold and pink. This gentle transition from trail to city is a rewarding conclusion to your adventure.

“An absolutely life-changing experience, could not have asked for anything to go better than it did. We did the Manaslu Circuit and Tsum Valley trek in a bit over 2 weeks and had plenty of time to soak it all in, some bigger days to push ourselves and some more chill days to rest and relax. It was a perfect time to go if one can stand the cold, as we pretty much had the trail to ourselves but of course we also made some lovely friends. Our guide Moti was extremely kind, caring and helpful and we had the best time enjoying the scenes and breaking out into dance. Thank you to him for making our trip so amazing and also special thanks to Madan for helping us organise everything so easily too before we headed off.”

Genuine, human, physical challenge
“Thank you very much to Madan, and to Kedar for their kindness and professionalisms! we left for the trek of Manaslu but ill health forced me to be repatriated by helicopter to the hospital of Kathmandu. They accompanied me from the beginning to the end. I even had the chance to do a scooter trek to Kathmandu with Kedar and visit a part of the city when the form was there. I can only recommend this serious agency with a really attentive guide!!!it always feels good when you are away from yours to have someone who reassures you and who is always positive! Fun but very serious I highly recommend...you can go with your eyes closed Vincent”

Amazing solo trek to Annapurna Base Camp
“Reviewed October 24, 2025 via mobile I’m very happy that I decided to book my ABC-trek with Touch The Himalaya. Mr. Madan was always available to answer any questions that I had and it made me feel very safe traveling alone as a woman. My guide Rishi took good care of me for the nine days we were on the trek, he knew all the best places to stay and to eat. He made my morning at Poon Hill very special by heading up there extra early to enjoy the sunrise over the Himalayas before it got too crowded. And we also reached Annapurna Base Camp on the clearest day ever! Even after the trek, both Mr. Madan and Rishi, made sure I was okay in Pokhara by myself and told me to call if I needed anything. Also Mr. Madan made sure my stuff that I left in Kathmandu arrived to my hotel when I got back. I highly recommend booking a trip with Touch The Himalaya! Definitely 10 out of 10! Date of experience: October 2025”
