Overview

The Annapurna Sanctuary, also widely known as Annapurna Base Camp (ABC), is one of Nepal’s most iconic Himalayan trekking destinations. Located deep in the Annapurna Himalayas, this spectacular natural mountain amphitheater is surrounded by towering peaks, including Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Machapuchare (Fishtail).

The Annapurna Sanctuary Trek takes you into the heart of the Annapurna region, where beautiful mountain trails pass through lush forests, terraced hillsides, waterfalls, and traditional Gurung and Magar villages. As you gain altitude, the scenery gradually changes from green hills and dense forests to alpine landscapes and magnificent snow-covered mountains, eventually leading to Annapurna Base Camp at 4,130 meters (13,550 feet).

There are several ways to experience the Annapurna Base Camp Trek, depending on your available time, fitness level, and preferred trekking style. For travelers with limited time, the Express Annapurna Base Camp Trek can be completed in just 6 days. Those who prefer a more relaxed journey can choose our classic Annapurna Base Camp itineraries of up to 14 days, allowing more time to enjoy the villages, landscapes, culture, and Himalayan scenery along the way. We also offer several trekking options between these durations, as well as customized private Annapurna Base Camp treks.

Reaching Annapurna Base Camp is the highlight of the journey. Standing inside the sanctuary and surrounded by some of the world's most impressive Himalayan peaks creates an unforgettable experience, particularly during sunrise and sunset when the mountains glow against the changing sky.

Whether you are looking for a short Express Annapurna Base Camp Trek, a classic 12–14 day adventure, or a customized private trek, our experienced local team can arrange an itinerary that matches your schedule and travel preferences.

Explore the Annapurna Sanctuary, walk through traditional Himalayan villages, experience breathtaking mountain scenery, and stand at Annapurna Base Camp in the heart of the Annapurna Himalayas.

Arrive in Kathmandu & Check In hotel

Arrive in Kathmandu (1,400 m) and check into your hotel. A private vehicle transfer from Tribhuvan International Airport takes roughly 30 minutes, depending on traffic. Rest and prepare for your trek

Your journey begins the moment you touch down in Kathmandu. After clearing customs at Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be met by our representative and transferred by private vehicle to your hotel in the heart of the city, a drive of roughly thirty minutes depending on traffic. The energy of Nepal's capital surrounds you from the first instant, a vibrant tapestry of color, sound, and scent that marks the start of your adventure.

Take the remainder of the day at your own pace. Settle into your accommodation, shake off the journey, and let the rhythm of Kathmandu unfold around you. In the evening, you will have the opportunity to meet your trekking guide for a pre-departure briefing, where we will review the route ahead, check your gear, and ensure every detail of your Annapurna Centuary Trek is in place. A good night's rest in the comfort of the city sets the stage for the mountain days to come.

Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara By Tourist Bus

Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara (approx. 200 km, 6-7 hrs), Nepal's lakeside city at 820 m, gateway to the Annapurna region.

The morning drive from Kathmandu carries you out of the valley’s bustle and onto the Prithvi Highway, where the road traces the Trishuli River through a landscape that shifts from dense hillside settlements to terraced farmlands and river-carved gorges. Frequent stops for tea and photo breaks break the journey, and on clear days you catch your first teasing glimpses of the high Himalayas rising in the distance, a promise of what lies ahead. Around midday the road begins to climb toward the town of Damauli before descending into the broad Pokhara Valley, and by late afternoon you arrive at the shores of Phewa Lake, where the Annapurna range reflects across the water in a scene that has welcomed trekkers for generations.

Pokhara rests at just 820 meters, a gentle introduction to the mountains that will soon surround you. The evening is yours to wander the lakeside promenade, watch fishermen paddle their wooden boats into the sunset, or simply sit with a cup of chiya and study the peaks you will soon walk beneath. Your guide will gather you for a pre-trek briefing, reviewing the days ahead and checking that your gear is ready, so you sleep with everything in place and the adventure properly begun.

Arriving near Hile, begin a steady climb through rhododendron and oak forests along a stone staircase of over 3,000 steps. This uphill demands patience, but reward comes quickly as you enter dense forests alive with birdsong.

Reach the charming Gurung village of Ulleri at 1960 meters, where stone houses cluster on the hillside with views of Annapurna South and Hiunchuli. Settle into your teahouse as golden light paints the mountains, with terraced fields and the murmur of the Modi Khola below offering a peaceful preview of the sanctuary ahead.

Trek from Tadapani to Chhumrung

Trek from Tadapani to Chhumrung (approx. 2,170 m), about 5–6 hours walking through rhododendron forests and Gurung villages.

Today’s walk from Tadapani to Chhumrung is a gentle descent through some of the most enchanting rhododendron forests on the entire trek. The trail winds downward for about five to six hours, passing through pockets of old-growth woodland where the air is cool and fragrant with pine and damp earth. As you lose altitude, the landscape opens into terraced fields and scattered Gurung settlements, offering a welcome shift from the high ridges of the previous days.

You will pass through the village of Ghandruk, one of the largest and most traditional Gurung communities in the region, where stone houses with slate roofs cling to the hillside. It is a good place to pause for tea and observe daily life before continuing along the Modi Khola valley. The path eventually brings you into Chhumrung, a quiet village set among farmlands, where you can rest and prepare for the gradual climb toward the sanctuary in the days ahead.

Final Departure and Transfer to Kathmandu Airport

Final departure day: pack up your gear, enjoy a last breakfast in Kathmandu, and transfer to Tribhuvan International Airport for your onward journey home.

Pack up your gear one final time and savor a leisurely breakfast in Kathmandu, where the morning light spills over the city and the distant Himalaya linger in your memory. This is a moment to reflect on the ridges crossed, the villages warmed by your presence, and the quiet summits that became part of your story. After breakfast, your private vehicle will transfer you to Tribhuvan International Airport, giving you a last glimpse of the bustling streets and terraced outskirts before you check in for your onward journey home.

As you leave Nepal behind, carry with you not just photographs but the feeling of thin air on high passes, the taste of tea shared with Gurung families, and the golden hush of dawn over the Annapurna massif. The trails you walked were your own, and the silence between peaks will follow you long after the wheels lift off. We wish you safe travels and hope the Centuary has left its gentle mark on your heart, calling you back to these mountains whenever the world feels too loud.

1,400 mBreakfast

Designed for trekkers with good fitness and a steady spirit, this 10-day itinerary balances daily walking of 5-7 hours with ample time to acclimatize. The trail’s moderate grade allows a natural rhythm: you ascend through subtropical forests and Gurung villages, then into alpine meadows before reaching the sanctuary’s heart. Spring brings rhododendron blooms, autumn offers crisp skies, and winter delivers clearer mountain views with cooler nights. Flexible pacing ensures you can pause at teahouses or savor side trails. Each day’s end rewards you with a warm lodge, hearty meals, and the quiet hum of the Himalayas.

Serious agency, perfect for Manaslu region

“I totally advise this agency for organising treks in the Manaslu region. They perfectly know this area and it helps a lot to adjust schedule regarding highlights to see, weather forecast and speedness that is the best for us. Also, one of their strongness is to perfectly follow the rules of high altitudes, to arrange nice acclimatization and be able to go over that high altitude pass. Particular thank you to our 2 guides Kedar and Tenzing for their kindness and professionnalism. And Madan for the organisation and his welcoming! ”

Amazing solo trek to Annapurna Base Camp

“Reviewed October 24, 2025 via mobile I’m very happy that I decided to book my ABC-trek with Touch The Himalaya. Mr. Madan was always available to answer any questions that I had and it made me feel very safe traveling alone as a woman. My guide Rishi took good care of me for the nine days we were on the trek, he knew all the best places to stay and to eat. He made my morning at Poon Hill very special by heading up there extra early to enjoy the sunrise over the Himalayas before it got too crowded. And we also reached Annapurna Base Camp on the clearest day ever! Even after the trek, both Mr. Madan and Rishi, made sure I was okay in Pokhara by myself and told me to call if I needed anything. Also Mr. Madan made sure my stuff that I left in Kathmandu arrived to my hotel when I got back. I highly recommend booking a trip with Touch The Himalaya! Definitely 10 out of 10! Date of experience: October 2025”

Genuine, human, physical challenge

“Thank you very much to Madan, and to Kedar for their kindness and professionalisms! we left for the trek of Manaslu but ill health forced me to be repatriated by helicopter to the hospital of Kathmandu. They accompanied me from the beginning to the end. I even had the chance to do a scooter trek to Kathmandu with Kedar and visit a part of the city when the form was there. I can only recommend this serious agency with a really attentive guide!!!it always feels good when you are away from yours to have someone who reassures you and who is always positive! Fun but very serious I highly recommend...you can go with your eyes closed Vincent”

Nepal Trek with great agency and very good guide

“Trek Manasulu 12 days. Great experience with Hiamalya Treks! Upstream of the trek, we were able to remotely plan the route, logistics. Madan, the agency manager, was very accommodating and and attentive. We were able to get to the start of the trek without worries. During the trek, our guide Koumar was at the top: kind, helpful, attentive. He found us quality lodges throughout the course and allowed us to spend a trek with peace of mind. I recommend this agency and Koumar as a guide!”

“Madan and team were less than guides and more like family during this trip. The tour itself was tiring at times (for a first time trekker) but beautiful, ever-changing and exciting all the way. Consider me a repeat customer and look forward to the first available opportunity to fly back and enjoy the beauty of Nepal and its caring people.”

Fantastic experience!

“Touch the Himalaya were fantastic! Speedy to get us out in the Manaslu and Tsum Valley Trek. Very thorough and clear with pricing and gave us a great price. We trekked with just a guide and carried our own gear. Madan was quick to organise transport, permits, a guide, packing list and an itinerary for our tour all within a day. Moti is an awesome guide! Funny personality, very caring, great service and went above and beyond his way to give us the best experience. He kept us fed very well sneaking us extra rice and dahl baht every dinner . He organised great accomodation for us to be well rested and prepared for our big days and negotiating great prices. He took us literally every step of the way from our accomodation in Thamel to Mu Gumpa in Tsum valley to 5106m on Larke Pass. Through our tiredness, excitement, boredom, awe of nature, our best and not so best. It’s truly been a great adventure with Moti from ‘Touch the Himalaya’, and to not only have just a guide but gained a a great friend through this experience. To Moti, a very dear and heartfelt THANKYOU bro”

Time of our lives on the Manaslu Circuit + Tsum Valley Trek

“An absolutely life-changing experience, could not have asked for anything to go better than it did. We did the Manaslu Circuit and Tsum Valley trek in a bit over 2 weeks and had plenty of time to soak it all in, some bigger days to push ourselves and some more chill days to rest and relax. It was a perfect time to go if one can stand the cold, as we pretty much had the trail to ourselves but of course we also made some lovely friends. Our guide Moti was extremely kind, caring and helpful and we had the best time enjoying the scenes and breaking out into dance. Thank you to him for making our trip so amazing and also special thanks to Madan for helping us organise everything so easily too before we headed off.”

Touch the Himalaya, the people and its culture

“November 2025 I have done the Langtang- Gosainkunda -Helambu trek in 16 days organized by the agency Touch the Himalaya Trek & Expedition. Madan Neupane, director of the trekking agency is a friendly and trustworthy person who has a lot of experience in trekking, especially because he has been walking all the treks by himself. He is a great source of information and listened well to my personal wishes! Madan, thanks a lot for your warm welcome with the milk teas at your office and the time you spend in answering all my specific questions. I warmly recommend you and your trekking agency Touch the Himalaya Treks & expedition. In particular I like to mention my guide/porter Ram Adhikari who accompanied me 16 days during the trekking, he is a sincere and pleasant person and is able to communicate in English well. Ram, thank you for your accompany, I really liked the time (and interesting talks about Nepal and ) we had together. I warmly recommend you as a guide/ porter!”

Highly recommended for anyone visiting Nepal!

“My wife and I had an amazing tour of Pokhara with Touch The Himalaya! My experience with Touch the Himalaya Treks and Expedition was extraordinary. Everything, from accommodation and transportation to guiding and hospitality, was perfectly organized and full of personal touches. Our guide and driver, Roshan, was absolutely fantastic, friendly, knowledgeable, and very professional. He made sure we were comfortable and enjoying every moment, taking us to the best viewpoints as well as some hidden gems around Pokhara. The tour was perfectly organized, relaxing, and filled with beautiful experiences. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide or a better company. Mr. Roshan deserves high praise for his deep knowledge as a guide, exceptional communication skills, and warm and enthusiastic personality. He made our trip not only enjoyable but truly memorable. Thank You, Mr. Roshan Pandey!! Thank you, Mr. Madan Neupane, for your kindness, support, and excellent organizational and logistical management. You made sure every part of our tour ran smoothly and efficiently. I truly appreciate everything you’ve done. Your thoughtfulness and generosity mean a lot to us! I highly recommend Touch the Himalaya Treks and Expedition for anyone looking for a fantastic, well-organized, and unforgettable tour experience in Nepal!”
