This journey is crafted for determined trekkers ready to step beyond the ordinary, blending the rewards of alpine trekking with the thrill of a genuine high-altitude ascent. From the moment you depart Kathmandu, you will trade crowded trails for the pristine, less-traveled landscapes of the remote Khumbu region, where lush forests give way to dramatic Hinku Valley moraines and high mountain passes. It is a path earned through effort and careful acclimatization, designed not for technical extremes but for the satisfaction of a Himalayan summit achieved through perseverance.
As you ascend through this wild and isolated terrain, the reward becomes panoramic: sweeping views of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Kanchenjunga unfold from the summit, offering a perspective few ever witness. With expert guidance every step of the way, you will navigate the Hinku Valley’s dramatic landscapes, camp beneath towering peaks, and rely on a carefully managed itinerary that prioritizes safety and acclimatization. The summit day itself is a culmination of all this effort a moment of raw achievement as you stand on the roof of the Khumbu, surrounded by the world’s highest mountains.
This is not a journey for passive travelers; it is a challenge for those who seek more than a standard trek. Mera Peak offers a genuine high-altitude mountaineering experience without demanding extreme technical skills, making it accessible to fit trekkers with a spirit of adventure. The 14-day duration allows for a gradual, rewarding ascent through pristine landscapes far from the beaten path, where you will encounter fewer fellow climbers and more of the raw, untouched beauty that defines the Nepalese Himalaya. From the initial flights into Lukla to the final descent back to Kathmandu, every element is designed to support your success—from experienced guides and group climbing equipment to domestic flights and permits. This is your chance to transform a dream into a personal triumph, one step at a time.
Drive from Kathmandu to Salleri-265 KM (2,390 m).
The journey begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu through winding mountain roads, terraced hills, rivers, and small villages of eastern Nepal. This long drive of about 8 hours allows trekkers to experience rural landscapes and local life before reaching Salleri. It is a gentle start that helps the body begin adjusting to higher altitudes while enjoying panoramic mountain views along the way. Overnight stay is in a local lodge in Salleri.
Drive from Salleri to Pangoma and Trek to Sibuje- approx. 40-45 km drive / 6 km walk (2,800 m)
After breakfast in Salleri, we begin a scenic yet adventurous jeep drive toward Pangoma via Khari Khola. The drive takes us through remote mountain roads, charming villages, terraced farmlands, and forested hills, offering insight into the rural lifestyle of the lower Solu region. The road beyond Salleri becomes rough and narrow, making the journey exciting but slow-paced.
Upon reaching Pangoma, depending on road conditions, we either continue by jeep as far as possible or start a short trek to Sibuje. The walk to Sibuje is pleasant, passing through small settlements, rhododendron forests, and rolling hills. This gradual transition from driving to walking helps the body adapt naturally to trekking. Overnight stay is at a local lodge in Sibuje.
Trek from Sibuje to Cholem Kharka 7-8 km, 5-6 hours (3,350 m)
Today marks a full trekking day as we leave the road behind and enter the quieter wilderness of the Hinku Valley. The trail ascends steadily through dense rhododendron, pine, and bamboo forests, crossing small streams and ridges along the way. This section of the trek is peaceful and rarely crowded, offering a true off-the-beaten-path experience. As we gain altitude, the vegetation gradually thins, and the air becomes cooler and fresher. Cholem Kharka is a seasonal grazing area with open meadows surrounded by forested hills. The day’s walk is moderate and ideal for acclimatization. We spend the night at a simple lodge in Cholem Kharka.
Trek from Cholem Kharka to Kothe 9-10 km, 5-6 hours (3,580 m)
The trek continues deeper into the Hinku Valley as we descend gently from Cholem Kharka and follow the scenic Hinku River upstream. The trail passes through beautiful alpine forests, moss-covered trees, and tranquil riverbanks, creating a serene trekking atmosphere.
Gradually, we reach Kothe, a small settlement located along the river and an important stop on the Mera Peak route. From here, the landscape begins to feel more alpine, and views of surrounding peaks start to open up. Kothe also serves as a key acclimatization point before heading higher toward Thangnak and Khare. Overnight stay is in a lodge at Kothe.
Trek from Kothe to Thangnak (4–5 hours)
You’ve spent the night at Kothe, and now it’s time to continue your Mera Peak Climbing Journey. You’ll follow the Hinku River upstream to Gondishung, where you’ll have lunch. A short walk from Gondishung, you’ll reach Lungsumgba Gompa, a 200-year-old Buddhist monastery. Locals believe that lighting a candle at the shrine here will bring good luck on your climb. In the afternoon, you’ll see rock art that depicts Mera Peak. Take some photos before you reach Thangnak (4,356 m). The trail from here is easy to follow, so you can take your time and enjoy the scenery. Yak herders only live in Thangnak, a high pastureland, during the summer. There are a few basic teahouses here where you can stay the night.
From Thangnak, get to Khare (5–6 hours)
Today’s trek is a bit of a challenge, as you’ll be passing through steep moraine trails and climbing a hill to reach Khare. From Thangnak, you’ll follow the Hinku River to Dig Glacier. From there, you’ll climb to Dig Kharka, where you’ll have stunning views of Charpate Himal. Next, you’ll cross the Hinku Nap and Shar glaciers. Be careful on this section of the trail, as it can be slippery and dangerous. After crossing the glaciers, you’ll climb a steep hill to reach Khare. This climb will be the most challenging of the day, so make sure to save your energy. Once you reach Khare, you’ll be rewarded with amazing views of Mera Peak. Khare is the acclimatization point for the Mera Peak climb, so you’ll spend the next day here resting and preparing for your summit attempt.
Acclimatization day and climbing training at Khare
Acclimatization is important for high-altitude adventures, especially peak expeditions. Mera Peak is a high-altitude climb, so it is important to spend a day acclimatizing at Khare before attempting the summit. This will help your body adjust to the altitude and reduce your risk of altitude sickness. On your acclimatization day, you will spend the day around Khare, which is the gateway to Mera Base Camp. You can relax, explore the area, or do some light hiking. This will give your body time to adjust to the altitude and make the summit day safer and more enjoyable.
Khare to Mera High Camp (4–5 hours)
You are getting closer to Mera Peak. You will leave Khare early in the morning and cross Mera Base amp. This stretch is technically demanding, as you will be walking on a steep glacier trail. Your team guide and porter will set up camp at Mera High Camp (5300 m). You will rest and have dinner at the camp. Spending a night under the open sky is an amazing experience. Get a good night’s sleep, as tomorrow is an important day of the expedition.
In the case of bad weather, set aside a day.
The weather in the higher Everest region is unpredictable, and the same is true for Mera Peak. We will attempt the summit today if the weather is favorable, otherwise we will try again tomorrow. This day is a backup in case the scheduled date is canceled due to bad weather.
Climb Mera Peak [6,476 m/21,246 ft] Summit then descend to Khare.
The most important day of the Mera Peak climb is the summit day. You will start climbing at 2 am to reach the summit before noon. After noon, there are strong winds that can make it more difficult to reach the summit. Your guide will lead you to the summit. The summit climb is simple and only involves a few minor technical climbs. Once you reach the summit, you will be rewarded with stunning views of several eight-thousanders and other peaks, including Mount Everest, Mount Cho Oyu, and Mount Makalu. Enjoy the feeling of accomplishment and take in the amazing views. You have achieved your goal of climbing Mera Peak! Bask in the success before making your evening trip back to Khare.
Trek back from Khare to Kothe
After summiting Mera Peak, you will retrace your steps back to Khare. You will pass through Thangnak, but you will not stay there this time. Instead, you will continue on to Kothe, which is a short hour hike away. The route from Khare to Kothe is mostly downhill, which makes it easier and quicker to walk. As you descend, you will experience a decrease in altitude and will be surrounded by dense forests of oak, pine, and rhododendron trees. The lush vegetation and downhill trails will make this a pleasant and relaxing trek.
Trek from Kothe to Tuli Kharka
After breakfast in Kothe, you will start your trek to Thuli Kharka. This is a longer and more challenging day than yesterday, as you will be hiking uphill for most of the day. The trail passes through forested areas and eventually reaches the western side of the Hinku Valley. Thuli Kharka is located just off the valley, and it takes about 5-6 hours to reach from Kothe. You have been to Thuli Kharka before, but this time you will be able to enjoy the views of the mountains. Thuli Kharka offers stunning views of Mera Central and its other peaks. Take some time to relax and soak up the scenery before continuing your trek.
Trekking through the Zatrawala Pass from Tuli Kharka to Lukla
Today is the last day of your Mera Peak climbing trek. You will be trekking from Thuli Kharka to Lukla in a single day. You will pass Zatrawala Pass again, which offers stunning views of the Everest peaks. After about 6 hours of trekking, you will reach Lukla. You will take a flight back to Kathmandu tomorrow.Enjoy your last night in Lukla. Take some time to relax and reflect on your amazing journey. You have accomplished something great!

“Madan and team were less than guides and more like family during this trip. The tour itself was tiring at times (for a first time trekker) but beautiful, ever-changing and exciting all the way. Consider me a repeat customer and look forward to the first available opportunity to fly back and enjoy the beauty of Nepal and its caring people.”

Go with your eyes closed
“We did the Manaslu circuit for two weeks. Everything went very well, the scenery was beautiful. Everything was very well organized, Madan was always available and even helped us after the trek. Our guide Roshan was flexible according to our desires and managed to make us comfortable despite random weather. Kind and funny, thanks to him we were always the first served at the table in the hotels 😂 Thank you again for this beautiful memories and superb experience. We recommend with your eyes closed.”

Highly recommended for anyone planning a trek in Nepal!
“We had the pleasure of doing the Manaslu Circuit trek with Touch The Himalaya Treks & Expedition and it was one of the best decisions of our trip to Nepal. From the very beginning, the terms of cooperation were clear and transparent. Communication via WhatsApp was fast and smooth, and everything was well organized, allowing us to fully focus on the trekking experience. We also had a porter who supported us throughout the trek, which made a big difference in comfort and allowed us to better enjoy the experience. Special thanks to our guide Roshan — he was professional, calm, and very attentive. At the same time, he was extremely positive and easy to talk to, always engaging with us and explaining what to expect each day of the trek. Thanks to him, we felt comfortable, safe, and well taken care of throughout the entire journey. The agency is reliable, well-organized, and truly cares about its clients. Everything went exactly as planned. ”

Nepal Trek with great agency and very good guide
“Trek Manasulu 12 days. Great experience with Hiamalya Treks! Upstream of the trek, we were able to remotely plan the route, logistics. Madan, the agency manager, was very accommodating and and attentive. We were able to get to the start of the trek without worries. During the trek, our guide Koumar was at the top: kind, helpful, attentive. He found us quality lodges throughout the course and allowed us to spend a trek with peace of mind. I recommend this agency and Koumar as a guide!”

Wonderful Manang and mustang tour!:)
“I traveled with a friend from Bangladesh on two separate overland Jeep tours to Manang and Mustang, organized by Touch The Himalaya. Both trips were incredibly enjoyable, and everything was handled smoothly and professionally by Madan from the company. We truly appreciated the well-managed arrangements and would highly recommend Touch The Himalaya for anyone planning an overland tour in Nepal. Thank you, Madan and the team at Touch The Himalaya!”

Wonderful trip to tsum valley
“Last month we made a trekking to tsum valley with Raju as a guide and two of his friends as porter. It was already the third time our family was on a trip with raju in the Manaslu area. It’s great that Raju is born in the Manaslu region so he knows the area and it’s people very well. Even if a temple is closed, Raju will find the guardian who’s willing to open up and show the building. Next to that he is a nice person. Always in a good mood and laughing, taking care of my sister who was a bit afraid at the more difficult passages and taking control when my brother got ill at high altitude. Together with his porter friends, they form a very nice and helpful team, always trying ho help. In short, we had a really wonderful trip. If we return to Nepal we’re sure we want to travel with raju again.”
